Wishing that the 34th America’s Cup still continued at least to Sunday, my wishes were answered. With bad weather and poor wind direction yesterday, and with conditions being too windy during the week, several races were postponed until Sunday. With luck, Oracle Team USA managed to win both races today! OTUSA really put ETNZ to shame today. The score is now 5:8 with Emirates Team New Zealand still 1 win away from winning the 34th America’s Cup. It was exciting to watch as it was last Sunday.

The tide during the first race was a flood tide. This means the bay was filling up. I got to the same spot as last Sunday, but I was on this large cement block instead of right at the water’s edge. Because the tide was a flood tide, waves were crashing the shoreline and I would have gotten all wet. During the second race of the day, there was a mix of an ebb tide near the shore, but still a flood tide in the middle of the bay. During the warm up and during the first race, there was a considerable amount of low laying fog. This made an interesting back drop as the Golden Gate Bridge was mostly blanketed with fog. The winds were coming in from the west and both the races were a go!

My local Planmeca USA rep, Joseph, came out to shoot with me. He was shooting with a 300mm f/2.8 lens. It is a beast! He had a few other zoom lenses that he did utilize in the end. I can’t wait to see how his photos turned out.

My set up was as usual: I used my Panoramic setup so I can pan again. I used my 70-200mm f/4 lens with Singh-Ray’s Variable Duo combo warming polarizer and 2-8 stop ND Grad. I ended up using this filter as a polarizer only. I liked how it took the reflection off the bay water. The warming colors are nice.

OTUSA lives to race another day. I am hoping the family can experience the race on Monday after Matthew finishes school. We’ll have to race to the city tomorrow.
